by the Friends of Sims to benefit the Steve Sims Leadership Award scholarship

Steve Sims Leadership Award
The Steve Sims Leadership Award is
a scholarship that was established by the family of Steve Sims to celebrate and
remember his vibrant life. Each year a $2,000.00 scholarship is awarded to
the female basketball or track and field athlete who best demonstrates
leadership qualities and other characteristics valued by Coach Sims. Those
qualities include-Competitive Spirit, Sense of
Fairness, Humility, Integrity, Love of Life, Sense of Humor, Giving Spirit, and
the Ability to Motivate.

- 2003 Lloyd's Evening
- Friends of Sims gathered to share memories of good times they shared
with Sims. Contributions were accepted for the scholarship fund.
This has become an annual event, held the first Monday in May at Lloyd's on
Grosse Ile.

- 2003 Silent Auction
-
Friends of Steve's, Ed and Jeanine Bottrell, held a silent auction
of some classic "Sims" items. Purchasers had the option of having
their auction money to into the scholarship fund or into a separate fund that Jeanine
and Ed set up to establish a permanent memorial on the island. They
raised enough money to have a drinking fountain with a bronze plaque
installed along Steve's running route this Fall. Thanks Jeanine and Ed!

- 2003 Simsonian 5k Kick Off Classic

The first annual Simsonian run was well attended and generously
sponsored by many local companies and individuals. Many thanks to Bill
Stevenson and his committee and crew for a great day!

- 2004 Lloyd's Evening
- Again, many Friends of Sims gathered at Lloyd's to reminisce.
Contributions were accepted for the scholarship fund and Lloyd's donated a
portion of the proceeds from the sale that evening of Lloyds t-shirts.

- 2004 Simsonian 5k Kick Off Classic No. 2
-
The second annual Simsonian run was held on August 21, 2004.
Over 250 runners ran the 5k route that began at the Grosse Ile High School
and ended at the Finish Line on the Grosse Ile High School track. Music, prizes,
shirts, and fruit and beverages were generously provided by: The Pepsi
Foundation, Wheat and Rye, Lloyds Bar and Grill, Total Runner, MBA
Realty Group, JP Morgan, Hantz Group and Sounds Exclusive
Entertainment.
Again, many thanks to Bill Stevenson and his committee and crew. Also,
thanks to John Adams and Craig Morford of Greenville, and Jim Kordupal of
Portage, who are long time
cohorts of Steve's, for pitching in!

- Steve Sims Drinking
Fountain Dedication
- Grosse Ile Township dedicated the Steve Sims Drinking Fountain on
October 25, 2004 before their regular Township meeting. Funds to
purchase the drinking fountain were raised by Jeanine and Ed Bottrell.
The Township installed the new drinking fountain on the corner of Meridian
and Church along Steve's usual running route.

Former student Brian Medved plants a memorial tree and plaque with Audubon
Society Grant........
